Knee injuries are common for many workers

On Behalf of Todd Miller Law LLC | Oct 24, 2025 | Workplace Injuries |

Many people assume that workers in certain industries are less likely to suffer from injuries than those in other industries. While that might be true for many types of injuries, knee injuries are one type that can happen to just about any worker.

Knee injuries are among the most common workplace musculoskeletal problems that occur. The knee has to support the body’s weight, so it can suffer damage, wear, and strain in many situations. Whether a worker is on a construction site or behind a desk, these injuries can occur.

Why are knees susceptible to injury?

The knees are one of the largest joints in the body, and they’re a complex joint. They support mobility, absorb shock and bear weight. Each time a person kneels, squats, lifts or climbs, they put more strain on the joint. This can lead to conditions, such as osteoarthritis, bursitis, meniscus tears and tendonitis. These are more likely when poor ergonomics or repetitive stress are present.

There are many factors that can increase the risk of knee injuries at work. Some of these include carrying heavy loads, moving or twisting awkwardly or walking on hard surfaces. In many cases, these injuries aren’t the result of a single trauma, which makes them difficult to spot because the pain starts off minimally and gradually increases over time.

How can knee injuries be prevented?

Knee injury prevention starts with proper training and gear. Workers should have knee pads if they kneel, and they should be instructed to get up and move the knee to ensure synovial fluid remains present in the joint. Immediate medical care is also critical if any employee notices pain or stiffness in the knee.

Knee injuries often require considerable medical attention, which can be costly. Workers’ compensation should cover the expense if the injury occurred on the job. Other benefits may also be possible, depending on the circumstances.
