Which heavy equipment causes the most jobsite accidents in Ohio?

On Behalf of Todd Miller Law LLC | Aug 5, 2024 | Construction Workers' Accidents |

Accidents on construction jobsites in Ohio are a serious concern. Construction work involves using various heavy equipment, which can be dangerous if not handled properly. Heavy equipment is essential for many construction projects.

However, these machines can also be hazardous. Knowing which ones pose the most risk can help companies implement better safety measures and training programs for their workers.

Cranes

Cranes are crucial for lifting and moving heavy materials. However, they can be very dangerous if not operated correctly. Crane accidents often result from operator error, mechanical failure, or improper setup. These accidents can cause serious injuries or even fatalities.

Workers need thorough training to safely operate cranes and understand their limitations. Regular maintenance and inspections also ensure the equipment stays in good working condition.

Bulldozers

Bulldozers push large amounts of dirt, sand, or other materials. Their size and power make them potentially dangerous. Accidents involving bulldozers can occur due to operator inexperience, poor visibility, or mechanical issues. To reduce the risk of accidents, workers should be trained to operate bulldozers safely and perform regular equipment checks. Using spotters can also help operators navigate safely.

Excavators

Excavators are used for digging and moving large objects. They can cause accidents if not operated properly. Common issues include striking underground utilities, tipping over, or hitting nearby workers. Proper training and adherence to safety protocols can help prevent these accidents. Operators should always check the area for potential hazards before starting work.

Steps to safer construction sites

Understanding which heavy equipment causes the most jobsite accidents can significantly enhance jobsite safety. Implementing strong safety measures will help create a safer environment for construction workers, ultimately reducing the number of accidents on jobsites.
