The prevalence of knee injuries among construction workers

On Behalf of Todd Miller Law LLC | Jan 24, 2023 | Construction Workers' Accidents |

Working in construction is common in Ohio. It offers regular employment for those who don’t mind getting their hands dirty.

However, as with any job, there are potential downsides to working in this field. Any construction work comes with risks, and many jobs take a serious physical toll on the body. A common injury for construction workers is knee injuries, which can put some people out of work for long periods of time.

As a construction worker, you must learn what steps to take to protect your knees and what legal options you have if you do experience an injury.

Use of the proper PPE

PPE (personal protective equipment) is necessary to prevent many types of injuries on the construction site. The best type of PPE for the knees is knee pads, which provide protection when kneeling for long periods. Another viable option is safety blankets, which offer a protective cushion between the knees and hard surfaces workers are on.

The proper fall prevention gear should be used for those who work from high levels. Falling and landing on the knees can lead to permanent injuries.

Regular breaks when engaging in certain types of work

If your job requires you to crouch or kneel throughout the day, your employer should enact policies that mandate regular breaks. These breaks are necessary to rest and stretch the joints, which can help prevent injuries.

Your legal options when injured at work

After experiencing a work-related knee injury, you have rights. One of these rights is to recover workers’ compensation benefits. It is smart to learn your legal options to ensure you get the benefits you are entitled to.
