Knee injuries in the construction sector

On Behalf of Todd Miller Law LLC | May 4, 2022 | Construction Workers' Accidents |

The construction industry provides steady work for people across the state of Ohio. This regular employment ensures that bills are paid, food remains on the table and families are able to maintain a decent standard of living.

Nonetheless, there are some downsides. Construction work is dangerous by nature, and it takes a physical toll on the body. One significant type of injury that is often overlooked is knee injuries. Knee injuries can put people out of work for a long time, and in some cases, the damage sustained can be permanent.

How can you protect yourself from knee injuries? And if you have suffered a work-related injury, what are your options?

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Working on hard surfaces can take its toll on the body. Construction workers often have to crouch on their knees to gain access to certain areas. If this is unavoidable, then suitable PPE should be provided. Knee pads are an effective way to reduce the wear and tear placed on joints. Another option is to utilize safety blankets, which offer a cushion between the joints and hard surface material.

Safe working conditions

Employees should not be forced to put their bodies under undue strain. Being in a crouched position for long periods of time exposes workers to injuries. Policies should be in place on-site to ensure that work is being rotated fairly and workers have regular rest breaks, where they can rest their joints.

Your options when injured at work

If you’ve suffered a work-related injury or illness, then you may be entitled to compensation for your suffering. Reaching out to an experienced party will provide you with the best chance of obtaining justice.
